June in Cincinnati is opera. Cincinnati Opera opens its 2014 summer festival with perennial favorite "Carmen" June 12 at Music Hall. Look also for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at Riverbend and the 2014 World Piano Competition, which will present its finals concert June 28. Last but not least, say farewell to Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra music director Mischa Santora, who concludes his 14-year tenure with the CCO June 1 in Corbett Auditorium at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

In collaboration with Cincinnati Opera, the early music ensemble Catacoustic Consort presents "Songs of Love and War" from the Eighth Book of Madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi.

Evans Mirageas, artistic director of Cincinnati Opera, leads an introduction to the new American opera "Silent Night' by Kevin Puts on the exact 100th anniversary of the onset of World War I. Musicians from the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note, clergy of many of the faiths represented in the war and members of the cast of "Silent Night" gather for a morning of music from the World War era at Spring Grove Cemetery, where many WW I veterans were laid to rest.
