evening of holiday music begins at 6 p.m. with a variety of student and
faculty ensembles of the CCM Preparatory Department. At 7:15,
musicians of the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra will perform
Americana standards, including "In the Mood" and "Take the A Train." The
evening concludes with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra Brass Quintet in a "multi-sensory
portrait of America," followed by fireworks at dark. Kids games and

Cincinnati Opera presents the Cincinnati premiere of Kevin Puts' "Silent Night." With libretto by Mark Campbell, "Silent Night" tells the true story of the Christmas Eve truce during World War I when opposing sides laid down their arms for a night of comradeship. Based on the 2005 French film "Joyeux Noel," the 2011 opera will be sung in English, French, German and Italian with English super titles. Cast members include tenor Thomas Blondelle as Nikolaus Sprink, soprano Erin Wall as Anna Sorensen and baritones Phillip Addis as Lt. Audebert, Craig Irvin as Lt. Cincinnati Opera presents its first ever baroque opera and its second production in Corbett Theater at the School for Creative and Performing Arts with Francesco Cavalli's 1651 "La Calisto." Based on a tale from Ovid's "Metamorphoses," the opera about Jove's (the king of the gods) shenanigans to get his hands on the nymph Calisto features bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch as Jove, soprano Nathalie Paulin as Calisto, soprano Alexandra Deshorties as Juno and countertenor Michael Maniaci as Endymion. David Bates will lead the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, joined by the early music ensemble Catacoustic Consort. Stage direction is by Ted Huffman. The opera will be sung in Italian with English super titles. Note: The production, with scenic design by David Centers, utilizes the same creative team as last season's "Galileo Galilei" by Philip Glass.
