In

Cincinnati Post, Mary Ellyn Hutton has written for the Cincinnati Enquirer, Detroit Free Press,
Newark Star Ledger, San Antonio Light, Musical America,
musicalamerica.com. Opera News, Opera Now, Symphony, Chamber Music,
American Record Guide, Ohio magazine, Cincinnati magazine, Express Cincinnati, Flute Talk and Double Bassist.
She is Cincinnati correspondent for www.ConcertoNet.com.
Mary Ellyn was trained as a violist at the University of Kentucky with
Kenneth
Wright, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in music. She
spent a summer at Colorado College as a student of violist Paul Doktor,
earned a Master of Arts degree in music history from Yale University and
a J.D. (Juris Doctor)
degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
She was principal violist of the Central Kentucky Youth Symphony
Orchestra and the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and played
viola in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra during her graduate study at
Yale.
She was associate principal violist of the Lexington Philharmonic
Orchestra (Lexington, Kentucky) from 1971-1980) and has performed as a
free lance violist in Boston, Washington D.C., Bethesda, Maryland,
Northern New Jersey, Maine,
Kentucky, Tennessee and San Antonio, Texas. She practiced law in
Kentucky and Texas before returning to her first love, music.
